“In at least one paragraph in the text, analyze the Information Flow. That is, in each sentence, label the new and old information in each sentence. You’ll be looking for the information that is old because readers have seen it before in the text, and the information that is new to the text.
Throughout the text, note and revise any breakdowns in information flow. Identify any sentences in which the wrong information is in the Stress (the end).
Note and revise any sentences in which readers must endure a long gap between a subject and a verb (a core violation) or in which the logical relationships are unclear (CO-Core.)
Continue to analyze for Focus (readability and value of characters in Subject Position, for specific readers); whether or not Focus is sustained across sentences. Continue to analyze for nominalizations, ad consider whether key actions have been expressed as verbs.”
